The scene starts with a midshot of Charlie from behind. We
used this to try and give the impression that something or someone was watching
her. We then faded it to a midshot from in front as if the shot was being taken
by a webcam. We only used diegetic sound so the shot seemed more realistic to
the audience. Also by using this wide midshot, the audience got information
that the main character didn't get. We then reversed the shot back to behind
Charlie in a midshot to emphasise again that Charlie was being watched. This
shot then cut to Charlie in a blackout. By doing this, it was a sudden shock to
the audience and Charlie herself. This was when we started to use non-diegetic
sound to put the audience on edge. We then cut to a extreme close up of
Charlie's eye which was followed by the camera panning. We used this shot
technique to place on the common fear of "something in the corner of your
eye". Fears are a common convention of horror movies. Also by using an
extreme close up, it made the audience feel uncomfortable as people don't
normal like being that close to another person. The shot then cut to a long
shot of Charlie turning around. We used this to give the impression that
Charlie was being stalked, almost like prey. The diegetic bang sound in the
background was used to jump start a chase seen which was done as a point of
view shot from the "monster". This chase was also emphasised by the
shadow going over Charlie as she ran. The shot then cut between Charlie's
hands, her panicked face and the darkness behind her. We used this to unnerve
the audience as quick cuts are commonly used in horrors for this effect.
